Rosacea is a common skin problem often affecting faired skinned and menopausal women. It is characterized by persistent redness and breakouts in the center parts of the face. Blood vessels under the skin of the face may enlarge and show through the skin as small red lines. The skin may be swollen and feel warm.
Women with rosacea may have flushing of the face when they are hot, drink alcohol or hot drinks, or eat spicy foods. This flushing causes the face to appear red. In the most severe form, this redness does not go away. There is no known cure for rosacea.
Some cosmoceuticals, like the Vivier Redness Relief System, are specifically formulated to help calm and soothe redness and rebuild the natural moisture barrier to make the skin more tolerant and radient. A medical treatment program that includes antibiotics often bring some improvement in symptoms.
