Juvederm® for Volume Loss and Filling Deep Lines and Wrinkles

injectables_juvederm

What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is placed strategically under the skin to restore volume and definition to facial features. It is a quick, comfortable and non-surgical approach to soften wrinkles and rejuvenate the cheeks, under-eye area, jawline, chin and lips, while keeping your appearance looking natural and well-balanced. Juvederm® is both FDA and Health Canada approved.

Juvederm® is administered using a fine needle or cannula, after the skin has been cleaned and numbed with some ice.  The process takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. A follow-up appointment after 2 weeks is included in the price of the treatment to assess results and determine if any further treatment is required.

The Juvederm® family includes Juvederm® ULTRA and ULTRA PLUS XC, Juvederm® VOLUMA, Juvederm® VOLIFT, Juvederm® VOLBELLA, Juvederm® VOLITE and most recently Juvederm® VOLUX.

Juvederm® UTLRA and ULTRA PLUS XC

These are the original dermal fillers used to restore volume to sunken cheeks, nasolabial folds and to augment the lips. Discomfort is minimized with the addition of the local anesthetic lidocaine to the Juvederm® XC formulations. They last anywhere from 4-6 months and have been used safely for over a decade.

Juvederm® VOLUMA

Juvederm® VOLUMA is a popular high-density dermal filler designed to lift and volumize the cheek area. It can also be used in areas such as the mid-face, chin and jawline to give structure to areas of facial deflation. It uses advanced Vycross® cross-linking technology and can last up to 24 months. Contains lidocaine.

Juvederm® VOLBELLA

Initially launched as a lip filler, VOLBELLA gently restores a natural-looking appearance to lips. It can be also for subtle lip volume and definition, and treating lines around the mouth. Recently VOLBELLA received approval to be used under the eyes to treat dark circles and tear troughs. It uses advanced Vycross® cross-linking technology and can last up to 12 months. Contains lidocaine.

Juvederm® VOLIFT

VOLIFT is a medium density dermal filler designed to treat nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines and temples. It can be used in place of VOLUMA when a softer filler is required. It can also be used to add long-lasting volume and definition to the lips. It uses advanced Vycross® cross-linking technology and can last up to 12-16 months. Contains lidocaine.

Juvederm® VOLITE

This is a skin treatment designed to improve hydration and smoothness. VOLITE is administered with a fine needle in tiny amounts all over the face and neck. The hyarulonic acid molecules are then dispersed under the skin to attract moisture and give your complexion a luminous and plump appearance. It uses advanced Vycross® cross-linking technology and can last up to nine months. Contains lidocaine.

Juvederm® VOLUX

This is Juvederm’s most recent and dense filler created specifically to augment the jawline and chin. It’s unique molecular structure is dense enough to mimic bone and gives an unprescendented level structure and contouring ability to the lower face. Juvederm® VOLUX uses advanced Vycross® cross-linking technology and can last up to 24 months. Contains lidocaine.

How does it work?

This procedure uses hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that begins to diminish during the aging process. Hyaluronic acid is a natural occurring acid found in your body that combines with water in your skin to restore fullness. It is biodegradable and reversible and will break down gradually over time and disappear from your body. Juvederm® is a FDA and Health Canada approved dermal filler and can be used as a treatment for several purposes, including adding facial volume, filling smile lines, filling lower face areas, and filling hollowed temples.

Are the results immediate?

Yes! The results are instantly visible so that “everyone will notice, but no one will know”!

Does it hurt?

Several precautions can help to minimize discomfort. Dr. Steyn only uses Juvederm® XC (extra comfort) that contains the local anesthetic, lidocaine, to minimize pain. The area is iced before injection to reduce pain and improve comfort. Only very small needles are used. Dr. Steyn also takes the extra time to inject the product slowly and carefully. All of these precautions have been shown to improve the patient experience.

Juvederm and Voluma Recovery

How long is the recovery time?

Brockville, Ontario patients who had a Juvederm® procedure can generally resume normal activities on the same day. There may be some bruising, swelling and redness associated with the injection of the filler. This can easily be covered with a camouflage kit as well as some make-up, and will gradually fade over the next week. Dr. Steyn recommends ice to reduce swelling for up to 24 hours after the procedure and a pain reliever as needed to ease any pain. Strenuous exercise should be avoided, as well as rubbing the treated areas during the following 24 hours. Avoid excessive steamy baths and saunas and do not use a tanning bed. It is best for patients to avoid pressing or lying on the treated areas for a day or two.
