SKIN PEELS IN BROCKVILLE, ONTARIO
Skin Peels Treat Acne Scars, Skin Texture and Signs of Aging
Skin peeling is a well-established cosmetic procedure with many benefits for the skin. Long before laser treatments became available, skin professionals have been using chemical peels to treat a multitude of skin concerns. A series of skin peels can effectively reduce acne and acne scars, fade hyperpigmentation such as melasma and sun spots, smooth the skin’s texture as well as lines and wrinkles. Deeper peels can even stimulate collagen production.
What Are the Different Types of Skin Peels?
Skin peels come in different strengths and formulations. They range from mild, medium to deep. The milder peels are designed for more superficial resurfacing whereas medium and deeper peels can penetrate down to the dermal layers.
Here are some peels available at Brockville Medispa:
-
Vivier Peel – 10% Lactic Acid, 2% Salicylic Acid, 14% Resorcinol
This is a mild peel with no downtime. Lactic acid is water soluble and Salicylic acid is oil soluble. Together these two effective skin acids help to rejuvenate the skin and deep cleanse the pores. The result is a reduction in the appearance of pores, sun damage, acne scarring and lines and wrinkles. Additionally, improved skin radiance and cellular renewal is achieved in as few as three sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart.
-
Jessner Peel – 14% Salicylic Acid, 14% Lactic Acid, 14% Resorcinol
Jessner is a highly concentrated medium to deep peel with several days of downtime. It targets skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, texture, as well as the signs of aging. This peels is also effective as resolving acne and rosacea type blemishes. Due to the deeply penetrating nature of Jessner, patients can expect more peeling and redness than our milder skin peels. The results are also more dramatic, revealing a healthier, smoother and more youthful complexion. A series of 3-6 treatments spaced four weeks apart are recommended when treating severe skin conditions.
-
Environ LACM Cool Peel / Milk Peel
Extremely mild and gentle, the LACM (Lactic Acid Cream Mask) Cool Peel is an alternative to harsher chemical peels. For individuals with extremely sensitive skin these peels have minimal downtime, burning and redness. This peel focuses on exfoliating the skin while maintain its integrity and natural water barrier. The Lactic acid component effectively removes the skin’s horny layer, stimulating fibroblasts and collagen production. The result is a fresher and more youthful appearance in 6-8 sessions.
How Do Skin Peels Work?
Skin peels, or chemical peels, use different types of acids to break down the top layers of skin. The goal is to remove damaged tissue and regenerate skin on a deeper level. Superficial peels don’t penetrate as deep so they’re better for smoothing the skin’s surface, fading acne scarring and mild hyperpigmentation and giving the skin a beautiful glow. Stronger acids affect more profound change at the dermal layers, such as stimulating fibroblast activity and production of collagen. Deeper peels can thicken the dermis, smooth lines and wrinkles and improve the skin’s texture more effectively.

What Happens During a Skin Peel?
Before administering the peel, your skin therapist will cleanse and prepare the treatment area, making sure all excess oil and debris are removed. A protective ointment may be applied around the eyes, nose and mouth – areas you don’t want to come into contact with the peeling solution.
Next, the peeling solution is applied to the skin so it can dissolve the outer layers and the ingredients can penetrate to where they need to go. The amount of time it stays on your skin depends on the strength of the peel. Some peels may need to be neutralized to deactivate the acid. Most gentle peels do not and can be left on the skin for the rest of the day.
Recovery can be anywhere from several hours (for pinkness to subside) to several days of peeling and healing. Normally a series of peels are recommended for noticeable improvement in skin tone, texture and for collagen synthesis to occur.
