ASK DR. STEYN
Dear Dr. Steyn,
I’m coming in for BOTOX® injections next week and it’s my first time. What should I do and not do? Thanks, Mary.
Dear Mary,
Congratulations on making the decision to get the most popular and effective anti-wrinkle injections to look more youthful and refreshed.
We will review with you all the necessary after-care instructions during your appointment. In preparation for your visit, however, here are some things to know ahead of time:
- Avoid any medications and supplements that can thin your blood for at least 48 hours prior to your injection. This will minimize any bruising and swelling.
- You won’t be able to lie down or engage in any strenuous activity for four hours after your treatment.
- You won’t see results right away. Unlike filler which produces instant improvements, BOTOX can take up to fourteen days to fully develop. You should start seeing less movement and softening of lines and wrinkles after 3-4 days.
- You may need a follow up appointment. Since it’s your first time we prefer to take a conservative approach to your BOTOX®. After two weeks we’ll evaluate the results and if you need a touch up, it can be done at that time.
- Results last approximately 3-4 months. So if you love your appearance after the BOTOX® has taken effect, expect to have maintenance treatments done regularly to prevent your wrinkles from coming back.
To learn more about our BOTOX® and other non-surgical treatments we invite you to book a consultation with Dr. Steyn.
